Brekete Family: NOUN responded to Ahmed Isa's criticism of its academic programs.
On the daily popular program that he presents on Thursday, October 6, 2022, Mr Isa remarked indignantly about institutions that allegedly run courses without government approval, "It's just like National Open University of Nigeria wey dey offer some courses without accreditation - 419!"
The university administration was dismayed that an informed commentator like Isa would speak in such a crude manner in a public setting where the audience looked at him for reliable knowledge and direction. He might have confirmed that all of the university's academic programs are accredited by conducting a quick check at the National Universities Commission (NUC) or the NOUN itself.
The NOUN's Director of Media and Publicity, Malam Ibrahim Sheme, announced this in a press statement on Sunday.
"This flippant statement, which Mr Isa appears to like repeating whenever it pleases him, may sound harmless to his unwary listeners, but it was actually a piece of deceptive information wrapped in a concern for the good of the people," the director added.

Scheme continues, "The NOUN takes pride in providing services with excellence and integrity, and is dedicated to floating and running only the courses that have NUC approval. When it comes to performing its duty of providing education through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode, the university will never engage in any shady practices.
"Towards this end, it has achieved great success, much to the delight of its over 500,000 students—the largest student body at any university in West Africa—and the admiration of the Commonwealth of Learning (COL), the international organization for all Open Universities, as well as the Nairobi-based African Council of Distance Education, he continued (ACDE).
"We expect Mr
Isa to always conduct himself in a morally upright manner and not misuse the authority and privilege that have been granted to him as a media owner and host of a well-liked talk show," the statement reads.
